PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Manager of Intermodal Operations is a pivotal role within the terminal operations, ensuring the effective management of train plans, yard capacity, and equipment maintenance, as well as the development and oversight of Supervisor staff. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, the ability to manage complex operational processes, and a commitment to promoting a culture of safety and efficiency within the terminal. It is not unusual for the Manager to work 50+ hours per week.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Drive performance management and career development initiatives for Supervisors to foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth

  • Develop and administer Supervisor schedules, including arranging vacation and training, to maintain high operational standards and staff competency

  • Issue train build instructions and the IMS Train Plan to enable efficient assembly and prompt departure of trains

  • Issue Dwell reports with actionable plans for the movement of railcars to optimize yard space and reduce dwell

  • Provide detailed in/out reports to strategically manage yard capacity, determine transfer sizes, and offer concise turnover instructions for smooth shift transitions

  • Lead port planning activities, providing instructions to IMS ports in line with domestic loading plans

  • Ensure accurate planning and tagging of tracks in Oasis for loading.

  • Communicate strategically with T&E and OC regarding train operations to maintain alignment on objectives

  • Uphold safety compliance, implementing corrective actions when necessary to maintain a safe working environment

  • Respond to incidents with urgency, ensure proper escalation in line with the emergency action plan, and follow-up to mitigate risks and ensure safety

  • Maintain the daily terminal scorecard, updating performance metrics and operational statistics.

  • Process and approve invoices related to contractors, physical protection systems, and fleet management, ensuring fiscal responsibility

  • Manage inventory and the procurement of terminal supplies, ensuring all necessary materials are readily available for uninterrupted terminal operations

  • Address no-bill rail car issues by liaising with the billing department to resolve billing discrepancies.

  • Oversee fleet vehicle assignments in MATS, ensuring the right equipment is available for operational needs

  • Conduct thorough AED inspections, certify operational readiness, and manage the replacement of units to uphold health and safety standards

  • Provide support and consultation to Director and Supervisors with regards to their responsibilities and accountabilities

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED

  • Previous railroad experience would be considered an asset

  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues

  • High proficiency in OASIS, TMS, MS Office Outlook, Word, and basic Excel

  • Understanding of applicable Collective Agreement

  • Problem-solving capability

  • High level communication skills

  • Ability to embrace constructive criticism

  • Willing to be available as required on a 7x24 basis.
