Spark Power Relay Protection & Control Technologist in Calgary, Alberta

Spark Power, a trusted partner in power in North America, is looking for a Relay Protection & Control Technologist to perform relay programming, testing and verification of protection and control devices in the field. The right candidate will have a working knowledge of protective relay controls and/or SCADA systems, we as well the ability to travel out of town for commissioning or maintenance projects. This position requires out of town travel 80% of the time.

What will you do as a Relay Protection & Control Technologist at Spark Power?

  • Understand, Plan, and Utilize utility & industry standard lockout procedures.

  • Read and interpret electrical AC & DC schematics, AC three-line, logic diagrams and SLDs.

  • Inspect, test, operate and troubleshoot AC & DC control and protection wiring schematic.

  • Perform field testing, verification, and programming of various IEDs from manufacturers such as SEL, GE Multilin, GEC Alstom, Siemens, Square D and ABB.

  • Maintain or Commission Power distribution equipment including Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, HV Switches and Instrument Transformers.

  • Be familiar with industry-specific codes and Standards (AESO, AUEC, IEEE, and NETA).

  • Ability and willingness to travel for out of town for commissioning or maintenance projects.

  • Report, record, compute, and process electrical test information in accordance with accepted standard practices.

Do you have the Spark? Here's what we're looking for:

  • Experience - 3 to 5 years of experience in P&C

  • Education - 2-year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma (I.e. from NAIT or SAIT) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree.

  • Licenses - Registered or eligible to register with ASET or APEGA.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

  • Decision Making - Makes decisions by weighing interrelated factors which are incomplete or contradictory.
