Black & McDonald Limited Project Coordinator - Mechanical / Electrical in Calgary, Alberta

Reporting to the Division Manager, the Project Coordinator will assist with overall project performance, including the management of costs, schedule, qualities, and overall project status, while maintaining excellent relationships with trades, subcontractors, and clients. They will keep the Project Manager/Division Manager informed of questions, progress, discrepancies in project process, and any other issues which would impact the plan and schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Assist the Project Managers and Division Manager to execute mechanical & electrical projects in accordance with Corporate Policy and Construction Business Processes.

  • Comply and assist with managing the implementation of company and legislated Health and Safety Programs, including Tool Box meetings, safety procedures and compliance to PPE.

  • Assist in planning and preparing construction schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established timelines

  • Assist in preparing contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors

  • Assists in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts in JDE

  • Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs

  • Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships

  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients

  • Subcontractor coordination

  • Solicit and submit shop drawings between vendors and owners for approval

  • Assist in the preparation of Operation and Maintenance Manuals

  • Maintain document control as per division standard

  • Material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs

  • Travel to various sites or clients to undertake the above

  • Complete one safety inspection per week

  • Coordinate tools and equipment

  • Coordinate and manage small projects when applicable

  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A university degree in engineering or a college diploma in construction technology and/or equivalent experience as a tradesperson

  • 3-5 years of experience in the construction industry, including experience as a supervisor, field superintendant or estimator may be beneficial

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient to Intermediate knowledge and understanding of:

  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution

  • Business operations processes

  • Organization and time management

  • Proficient to Intermediate user of:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project)

  • Procore experience, preferred

  • JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system

  • Knowledge of Computer Estimating Programs is an asset

  • Ability to work in a team environment with commitment to project excellence; professional in all dealings with trades, office staff and customers

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to shift priorities; flexible with working hours as required by the project

  • This is an in-office position in Calgary, AB (1071 - 26 Street NE).
