POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Corporate Services is currently recruiting for a Helpdesk Summer Student to work at our Shepard office location (9423 Shepard Road SE. Calgary, Alberta T2C 4R6).  The summer student offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in IT support. As a key member of the IT team, you will provide technical assistance to users, troubleshoot hardware/software issues, and deliver exceptional customer service. If you’re a proactive problem-solver with a passion for technology and a desire to learn, this role is perfect for gaining valuable skills and making a meaningful impact this summer. TECHNICAL SUPPORT (Weighting 75%) Ticket Management

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly responding to user inquiries, addressing concerns, and providing timely resolutions to technical issues. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.

  • Manage help desk tickets efficiently by accurately documenting and prioritizing use requests.

  • Update ticket statuses, follow up with users to ensure issue resolution, and escalate complex problems to senior technicians when necessary.

    Hardware/Software Installation & Configuration

  • Assist with the deployment and setup of new computer systems, peripherals, and network devices.

  • Assist users with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of software applications, including operating systems, productivity tools, and specialized software used within the organization.

  • Perform basic hardware maintenance tasks such as installing or replacing components, troubleshooting hardware failures, and ensuring the proper functioning of computer peripherals.

  • Adhere to IT security policies and procedures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of organizational data. Educate users on security best practices and assist with security-related inquiries.

    IT ADMINISTRATION (Weighting 25%) User Training & Documentation

  • Assist in the development of user-friendly documentation, manuals, and guides to assist users in resolving common technical issues independently. Conduct training sessions or workshops to educate users on IT best practices and new technologies.

    IT Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate records of IT assets, including computers, peripherals, and software licenses.

  • Conduct periodic inventory audits to track asset usage and identify discrepancies

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled in a relevant degree program such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience in Windows platform and Microsoft Office 365

  • Microsoft Azure Fundamental Certification would be considered an asset.

  • Basic knowledge of Active Directory Services and Microsoft 365 would be an asset.

  • Basic knowledge of software development methodologies and techniques

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Suite, i.e., Microsoft Teams, Notes, Forms, Intune, etc., would be considered an asset.

  • Experience in Dynamics 365 and Dynamics Life Cycle Services would be considered an asset.

  • Knowledge in SQL database management, Application Lifecycle Management, DevOps, Power Platform, PowerBI would be considered an asset.

  • Excellent customer service skills combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Able to multi-task in a high paced environment with conflicting priorities

  • A quick learner who can easily understand new concepts.
