The Idaho Transportation Department is hiring a Transportation Technician Senior for our District 3, Caldwell Design/Construction Section. This is an entry-level position, the first step in the Transportation Technician Engineering Career Path series. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, enthusiastic learner, and constructive team member.

This position is the first step in the Transportation Technician Senior Horizontal Career Path series.

The Transportation Technician Senior Horizontal Career Path consists of 3 steps. Wages increase after the successful completion of each step in the career path as outlined below:

  • Starting wage: $23.81

  • Completion of Step One: $25.14

  • Completion of Step Two: $27.65

  • Completion of Step Three: $30.51

Example of Duties

  • Good knowledge of CADD - Modeling, computer aided Drafting

  • Assess contractor activities including: inspection, proper installation sequencing, schedule compliance, and contract requirements.

  • Inspect, observe, and ensure a construction project is constructed in accordance with contract plans and specifications

  • Maintain accurate daily record of the work (labor, equipment, materials, quantities)

  • Coordinate, perform, and/or supervise technical engineering work in the field, or office.

  • Be able to carry 25 pounds over rough uneven terrain and walk long distances.

  • Compute, check, and verify quantities, materials, costs, and final contractor payments;

  • Assist licensed engineers in developing and designing highway construction projects.

  • Test Asphalt, Concrete, and Aggregate Materials and document data for highway design and construction projects.

  • Maintain and monitor field equipment for well monitoring under the supervision of a licensed engineer.

  • Review and draft construction plans under the supervision of a licensed engineer.

Minimum Qualifications;

Good knowledge of:

  • Computer systems and applications used in land Surveying, engineering/construction and maintenance.

  • Proficiency in math and reading skills.

To qualify, applicants must have at least 6 months of work experience in the following:

  • Using construction plans, blueprints, drawings, specifications, maps, charts, graphs, manuals, schematics, and/or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data;

  • Providing direction, training, or assistance to others on engineering, design, construction, roadway maintenance projects, or other applicable work assignments;

  • Identifying and organizing materials, tools, or equipment for construction, roadway maintenance, engineering design projects, and other applicable assignments.

    Licensure: Valid driver's license.
