The City of Caldwell is seeking applicants for a Sign/Stripe Specialist

Fabricates, installs and maintains the street signs on the City street system network; performs street painting and striping of all City roadways, parking lots, and City-owned and maintained properties; performs related work as required.\ \ The principal function of an employee in this class is to install and maintain the Citys street sign and marker system to ensure the effectiveness of traffic operations and directional systems, as well as maintains sign compliance requirements as advised by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The work is performed under the general supervision of the Street Superintendent. An employee in this class performs the duties of other employees in the Streets Department as required or as assigned by supervisory personnel. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with all City employees and the public.\ \ The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions, traffic congestion, and related hazards.\

Responsibilities
  • Reads design diagrams and maps of existing and new roads and developments to determine proper location of traffic signs and street markers in accordance with city plans and state regulations;
  • Prepares ground and digs placement areas and installs and anchors traffic signs and street markers to specifications and accepted practices;
  • Replaces worn, missing, defaced and vandalized street signs and markers;
  • Repairs and maintains street signs and markers including adjusting, straightening, painting, and cleaning signs;
  • Removes sight obstructions and coordinates larger sight obstruction projects with supervisors and maintenance personnel;
  • Maintains inventory of signs and database of placement locations;
  • Prepares daily log of activity;
  • Utilizes City sign software program to document, coordinate and schedule work;
  • Monitors and reports traffic activity levels and possible areas of concern;
  • Operates computerized sign lettering equipment and stripes and repaints parking lots, cross walks and curb areas;
  • Fuels, lubricates, performs preventative maintenance and inspects equipment for use in maintenance facilities and projects;
  • Supervises a summer crew responsible for seal coating;
  • Paints and installs linear and transverse markings on city streets and city-owned parking facilities;
  • Operates and maintains paint striping equipment used to paint lines on city streets and parking areas;
  • Completes temporary markings after road construction and parking lot resurfacing;
  • Cleans and restores construction areas, job sites and other project areas;
  • Cleans, maintains and repairs tools, equipment and facilities;
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;
  • Responds to citizens questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartm ntal operations and activities;
  • Operates equipment and assists other departmental personnel with street maintenance, construction and repair activities;
  • Welds, cuts and performs masonry repairs;
  • May perform general inspections of bridges and culverts and report finding to City Engineering Department;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
