Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. IT Network Engineer in Burns Harbor, Indiana

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking an IT Network Engineer for our Burns Harbor location. The Network Engineer will oversee the continued support and optimization of network services for LAN/WAN, routers, switches, wireless, data circuits, firewalls, and security.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • The Network Engineer will understand and participate in safety related topics and actions and follow the established safety practices of both plant based and IT related safety.

  • Provide base support (Break-Fix-Moves-Adds-Changes) and coordinate/participate in the design-installation of the Network Infrastructure projects. This will include directing the local MTE/ET resources for proper cabling/terminations, enclosure/patch panel and rack mounting.

  • Lifting and installation of network infrastructure equipment (access points, routers, switches, and UPSs) in offices and on the plant floor.

  • The Network Engineer will design, configure, coordinate, and participate in the installation of all network infrastructure equipment (access points, routers, switches, voice gateways, etc.).

  • The Network Engineer will be involved in and assist in the deployment of firewalls and various security-based monitoring appliances and tools.

  • Maintain and improve the standards within the monitoring tool sets utilizing best practices. This includes configuration of the tools, report development, and configuration changes to various network infrastructure equipment (access points, routers, and switches) using the tools.

  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to monitoring configuration, mapping, processes, and change records.

  • Provide support for network management tools (Network Node Manager (NNMi), PRTG, Splunk, and SolarWinds).

  • The Network Engineer will be required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as needed in some locations within the plant. This typically includes Safety glasses, hard hat, steel toed-metatarsal shoes, and long sleeve shirts. Some locations require specialized clothing (fire retardant and/or arc proof) clothes and/or use of gas monitors.

  • Travel to other Cliffs locations as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum, two years’ experience with Ethernet LAN (Local area Network) topologies.

  • Minimum two years’ experience with TCP/IP protocol.

  • Experience with Cisco wireless access points, routers, and switches.

  • Experience with Microsoft Visio.

  • Strong analytical capabilities with attention to detail.

  • Ability to learn new technology quickly.

  • Ability to plan and set direction.

  • Demonstrated teamwork/interpersonal skills.

  • Project management, planning and Leadership skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with network monitoring tools (IE SolarWinds)

  • Experience with PC applications including Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years BS Computer Network Engineering

  • Proficient at configuring Cisco routers and switches. Includes development and implementation of features that optimize network communications.

  • Development of SOW (Statement of Work) for network tool projects.

  • Proficient using Microsoft Visio to create network drawings.

  • Experience setting up and configuring HP Node Manager, PRTG, Splunk, and SolarWinds network management tools.

  • Experience configuring router ACLs and logging.

  • Experience with firewalls and other security appliances/tools.
