Under general supervision, transports patients to and from the Radiology Department while maintaining patient safety and dignity.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Transfers patients to and from the nursing floors to the various sections of the Radiology department in a courteous, timely, and safe manner, following appropriate standards for patient transport.

  • Ensures that patients are placed safely in wheelchairs and on stretchers.

  • Transports patients according to the “Hospital Travel Ticket” asking for clarification from unit if necessary.

  • Establishes appropriate and effective communication with patients and/or family members in order to maintain patient comfort and safety.

  • Transfers care of patients to the appropriate Radiology personnel by entering each patient’s name in the appropriate logbook and speaking directly to a member of the receiving modality.

  • Follows Lahey policy on Correct Patient Identification using two patient identifiers. Verifies by matching information on each patient’s name band.

  • Informs the nursing station when each patient leaves the floor and is brought back.

  • Ensures that wheelchairs, stretchers and O2 tanks are properly cleaned and ready for use on a daily basis. Reports problems with equipment to the appropriate supervisory personnel in a timely manner.

  • Follows the proper procedure during emergency codes, i.e. Code 99 & Code Red and during emergencies within the Radiology Department.

  • Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.

  • Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.

  • Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.

  • Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.

  • Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.

  • Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.

  • Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.

  • Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent

Licensure, Certification, Registration: None required

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: None required

Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of related experience.
