Job Description

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center Emergency Department Newly Licensed Nurse Orientation Program

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center Emergency Department is a 44-bed department caring for patients across the age and acuity spectrum as a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and tertiary referral center. The Emergency Department sees 49,000 patients annually and admits to the 335-bed acute care hospital.

We have a strong interdisciplinary team comprised of Emergency Medicine Physicians, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, dedicated specialty Pharmacists as well as strong collaboration with our specialty service lines. The nurses and nursing assistants in the ED practice to their full scope of practice following and incorporate evidence into their daily practice while caring for patients across the care continuum. We are looking to provide specialty education targeted at transitioning New RN Graduates into the fast paced, high acuity department and equipping them with the skills and knowledge for a successful professional foundation. Our education outline includes didactic learning routed in Sheehy’s Emergency Nursing Principles augmented with classroom and skill development.

Shifts available: Day, Evening, and Nights

Orientation includes classroom, eLearning components, and reading materials

Educational program and outline covers the initial 13 weeks of orientation, with total orientation length averaging 5 months

We include ACLS and PALS as part of orientation

We utilize a primary preceptor model – orientation shift will be based on preceptor schedule. You will be transitioned to your shift with a primary preceptor towards the end of orientation

Once you have completed orientation you will be assigned to a weekend and holiday

Department standard is every third weekend, one summer holiday (Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day) and one winter holiday package (groupings include – Thanksgiving/New Year’s Eve, Christmas Eve/New Year’s Day, Christmas/Day after Thanksgiving)

Qualifications

Less than 6 months of RN experience

BSN preferred

Must have a valid RN license to practice professional nursing in MA

Must have a current BLS Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

EMS/ED Experience is a plus
