Meta Hardware Engineer in Burlingame, California

Summary:

This is an individual contributor role for an experienced hardware engineer/engineering lead that will be working on state-of-the-art AR Hardware. The person in this role will serve in a few capacities: tackling longer-term and cross-product hardware workstreams in partnership with teams like; Systems Engineering, Product Management, and technology teams. They will handle new engineering work that emerges outside existing roles and responsibilities on the team, adding engineering leadership and bandwidth to critical issues or under-resourced problems as they come up. In addition this person will improve the organization’s efficiency with efforts around ‘better engineering’, knowledge-sharing, community-building, and engineering process.This is a complex and operationally challenging role that will afford the opportunity to impact and steer the development of technologies that have the potential to make people feel more connected and more present.

Required Skills:

Hardware Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Find opportunities to drive a more consistent approach to developing products across the organization

  2. Support hardware program and engineering leads on hot-topic issues in their programs

  3. Step into gaps and support as a high-level individual contributor, especially in areas that aren’t fully covered by existing teams

  4. Build systems for leveraging knowledge across the organization's teams in design, development, and manufacturing

  5. Debug and improve processes for tracking hardware risk, cost, etc

  6. Build and improve internal tools, specifically to maximize efficiency of engineering roles across the organization

  7. Build and support cross-product technical communities

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.

  2. Engineering experience with cameras, displays, batteries, and other sensors.

  3. Demonstrated domain knowledge in compute & systems development, proven track record in building technology and product development.

  4. 5+ years of experience as a hardware lead/leader working across one or more of the following areas: electrical, mechanical, systems and software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Direct experience developing technology strategy for consumer hardware.

  2. Experience with 3D design modeling and physical prototyping.

  3. Experience integrating RF technologies such as WIFI, BT, GPS, etc.

  4. Experience leading and driving mechanical design from concept, through design for manufacture, assembly, and test.

  5. Experience leading and driving electrical design development from schematic capture, PCB layout through assembly.

  6. Experience with digital circuit design and various communications protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, USB, MIPI, I2S, etc.

  7. Experience in working with JDM partners in the design, manufacture, testing and delivery of next generation hardware solutions.

Public Compensation:

$253,000/year to $319,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
