United Cooperative Services Engineering Services Technician I -Electric - Burleson in Burleson, Texas

United Cooperative Services has an opening for the position of Engineering Services Technician I - Electric in the Burleson IS&T Department. This position will office in our Burleson facility until the Cleburne office opens in Fall 2025.

Candidate should have a stable, verifiable work history, with an acceptable MVR. A pre-employment drug and alcohol screen is required. This is a career job with progressive pay and an outstanding benefit package. Positions are open until filled. This non-exempt position starts at $30.86 per hour.

The Engineering Services Technician I- Electric prepare and maintain engineering databases for mapping and electrical connectivity as required by the Cooperative. Prepare and maintain computerized mapping, drafting and other graphical work as required by the Cooperative. Assist with GIS database related work as necessary. Assists System Operators in daily operation of OMS software as well as the operation of SCADA.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Responsible for the electric engineering model maintained in the GIS mapping

environment. Can create and maintain a detailed engineering model from the

substation to the consumer. Must enter work orders, map changes and

corrections to maintain the model’s connectivity, and perform circuit diagnostic

locate and correct any errors found in the database. Use necessary resources to

verify changes in the database.

B. Compile and perform necessary queries of the electric engineering model and extract information from databases, as required by other departments of the Cooperative or contractors, to perform their duties.

C. Individuals must have knowledge of and be proficient in the operation of the outage

management system (OMS) as well as train necessary System Operators and member service representatives (MSRs) in the use of the OMS software. Ability to extract outage data and management of said data from the OMS database for the use in outage reporting.

D. Individuals must be proficient in the use of the latest version of Geospatial Information System (GIS)/Computer-Aid Design/Drafting software and be capable of editing, plotting, importing/exporting files for Cooperative maps. Will be required to compile and execute introductory level script files, configure software for the use with printers/plotters, query maps for data required for departmental and contractor use and export in the proper format. Ability to transfer/plot maps from the staking or planning software.

E. Individuals must be capable of supporting daily functionality of the SCADA for System Operations as well as interpret and explain the SCADA logs.

F. Individuals must be capable of using necessary software/hardware for the collection and storing of GIS data. Ability to use material management and consumer information software, AutoCAD, electrical engineering modeling software, Access, SQL Server to run queries, compare files, provide data for storage and use of GIS data for the other departments of the Cooperative or Contractors to perform their required duties. Maintains the operation of GIS viewing and staking software to facilitate work orders, perform all necessary hardware and software upgrades, system maintenance, and work with Field Engineering Representatives to improve processes and provide training as necessary.

G. Individuals must be capable of performing routine updates to all databases, as well as the mapping, viewing, staking, IVR, and OMS system software.

H. Individuals must understand and complete work order tracking and related benchmarks.

I. Utilize communications with points of contact necessary for updating GIS data used in the process of calculating tax and franchise monies. Maintain tax boundaries throughout the year as annexations are researched or provided.

J. Individuals must have knowledge of and be proficient in the operation of the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems (outage, payment, pre-payment, notification, etc.) as well as train necessary System Operators and MSRs in the use of the necessary software and/or procedures. Ability to extract data and management of said data from the IVR database for the use in reporting and analysis.

K. Adhere to and encourage United’s safety policies and procedures and offer

recommendations to your supervisor to enhance the cooperative’s safety culture.

IV. EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

Employee: Interacts with other Cooperative employees to verify and/or obtain data necessary in the maintenance of engineering/mapping databases, to verify or correct proper operation of the staking software, as well as interact with System Operators to maintain or troubleshoot the OMS system.

V. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent required. Must have six months to one year of related experience and/training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Abilities and Skills: Must be computer literate and have the ability to operate in the Microsoft Windows environment as well as basic computer skills necessary to operate all standard office equipment on a regular basis. Individual must have basic knowledge of electricity and connectivity. Individual must be able to follow detailed instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form as well as perform simple math calculations and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. This position requires the ability to write routine progress reports and correspondence using Microsoft Office Software, as well as introductory level scripting skills. Must have and maintain a current Texas driver license without violations that would prohibit insurability.

Physical Effort: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation. Rarely lifts up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in both office and outside environments with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts with occasional overtime.
