Summary: The Department of Cancer Prevention and Control uses tissue-based, genomic, and computational approaches to understand the factors that influence aggressive breast cancer. We infer characteristics of immune populations in the tumor microenvironment from multiplexed immune profiling, RNA-seq, whole exome sequencing data, and methylation approaches. We seek a Programmer/Biostatistician with advanced skills to help us accomplish the above-mentioned analyses and other related analyses.
The successful applicant will have experience in one or more of the following in order of importance: digital quantitative image analysis of tumor tissue samples; analysis of cellular positioning, cell-cell interactions, global tissue structure, and heterogeneity of tissue microenvironments; cancer genomics; epigenetics; single cell genomics; genotyping analysis; or similar disciplines. Expert knowledge in one or more programming environments such as R, Python, Matlab or similar. The successful applicant will conduct complex analyses of tumor tissue data and write code using a variety of software programs, as well as prepare written reports and visual displays of data for manuscripts and scientific presentations.

Salary range for this position is $74,553 - $91,939 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications:Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, management information systems or a related field; or
2. Associates degree in computer science, engineering, data science, management information systems or a related field and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time software development experience; or
3. High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma with a diploma or certificate in a computer science, or related field and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time software development experience.

NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have their PhD and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time professional research experience in a statistics, bioinformatics, data science or related field or their Master's degree and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time professional research experience in a statistics, bioinformatics, data science or related field, a minimum of 2 yrs experience conducting programming and statistical analysis as a primary component of a previous job, and experience working with biomarker data. They will also be an expert knowledge in R, Python, Matlab or similar, have experience with tumor analyses and immunobiology, in-depth knowledge of fundamental and applied biostatistics with knowledge of several standard statistical and graphical software packages (such as SAS, SPSS, MINITAB, S+, JMP, STATA, R, SigmaStat and Sigma Plot), and the candidate should be proficient in model building and the identification of confounding in epidemiological studies. They will also have excellent communication skills with experience working in a team and an academic environment, and demonstrated critical thinking ability and extreme attention to detail is required.
