Position Summary:

The Department of Engineering Education ( DEE ) (https://engineering.buffalo.edu/engineering-education.html) at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites candidates to apply for the position of Director of the online BS in Engineering Science (BS ES) Program and Assistant Professor of Teaching (a non-tenure track lecturer position). DEE faculty and graduate students advance modern pedagogical tools and teaching methods, including the field of online education. At the undergraduate level, the department offers a variety of engineering and applied science courses including technical communication, engineering computations, statics, and dynamics. We are looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a team environment, thrive in a diverse community of students and faculty, and share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potential.

DEE offers a BS ES degree that is delivered in both online and in-person modalities. The focus of this position is the online degree.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating with other faculty to ensure the delivery of the online BS ES program;

  • Teaching and developing online, primarily asynchronous engineering and applied science courses at the undergraduate level;

  • Coordinating with the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the in-person BS ES program;

  • Formulating and implementing student excellence initiatives, ABET objectives, and diversity enhancement;

  • Assisting in the analysis of student academic progress and retention; and

  • Contributing to assessment activities.

In addition to effective teachers, the Department of Engineering Education seeks teacher-scholars who can contribute to new programmatic initiatives and teaching practices. Participation in teaching innovative research is encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD required; candidates must complete all administrative and academic requirements for a doctoral degree in engineering education, or in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or in a closely related engineering field prior to their appointment.

  • Evidence of previous online course development and online teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced experience in teaching at the undergraduate level is preferred.

  • Previous experience serving as an academic program director or program lead.
