Calspan Corporation Electrical Engineering Technician - Automotive Crash in Buffalo, New York
The Calspan Automotive Crash Facility, located in Buffalo, NY, is an international leader in automotive crash testing and is always improving and advancing the science. Working in Calspan’s new, fully enclosed automotive crash test facility with its MESSRING propulsion system and micro track, the Electrical Engineering Technician will support test lab operations and maintenance.
The Electrical Engineering Technician will be working in full vehicle automotive crash operating area, maintaining and upgrading equipment to support laboratory crash testing. The Technician will also test systems maintenance, including electrical and software systems for data production and quality control.
Maintain, repair and upgrade test systems to maximize operational availability, and the fidelity and accuracy of all test data. Manage equipment calibration, repairs and procurement.
Help maintain and improve controls and data acquisition systems on test machine including setup of instrumentation, programming in Matlab, Python, Labview, PLC. Provide support to controls engineer and testing staff on an on-going basis.
Maintain, improve and document data processing work-flows. Support testing staff to ensure consistent and accurate data processing results. Work on existing code in Matlab, Python, LabView.
Operate test machine, produce data as required by customer on an as needed basis. Understand all facets of testing and be able to fill operator vacancies periodically.
Preferred Education / Experience:
AAS in Electrical Engineering Technology or similar in related discipline
3+ years in related discipline or;
A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
Troubleshooting mechanical or electrical problems
Electrical and electronic principles
Perform operations and execute test procedures for engineering, scientific, or real-time data acquisition
Read and interpret engineering plans and specifications
Testing and inspection principles and procedures
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
