Job Purpose

The Director of Fleet Maintenance Operations and Asset Management leads and maintains the organization's fleet of cars, trucks, and all vehicular/tracked equipment in support of National Grid Gas and Electric Operations. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to support the most cost-effective planning, maintenance, and deployment of fleet assets. The Director of Fleet Maintenance Operations and Asset Management directs the development of a total cost model to minimize the operating cost of the organizations, including the determination of outsourcing, supplier, and vehicle selection, and performance. This position requires outstanding Project Management skills in working cross-functionally with other Directorates at National Grid.

Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for directing the deployment, operations, and maintenance of all motor vehicle/tracked equipment both owned and leased by National Grid.
  • Drafts and presents reports on department operations and expenses.
  • Prepares and implements departmental budget.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of finance of accounting relating to the acquisition (purchase or lease) of vehicles and the impact on the Company's balance sheet.
  • Develops schedules and procedures for and ensures adherence to routine maintenance and non-routine repair of all vehicles and equipment in the company's fleet.
  • Directs fleet operations and scheduling to ensure the availability of vehicles and equipment when needed.
  • Oversees and delegates responsibility for day-to-day workflow of the departments and staff.
  • Collaborates with supervisors and staff to manage and reduce expenses such as fuel and labor costs.
  • Establishes a schedule for recommended replacement of fleet vehicles. Provides direction to Engineering and Procurement to develop a process for the maximum lifecycle of all fleet equipment.
  • Provides critical technical information for all pre-acquisition activities to ensure maximum utilization of financial resources.
  • Creates and manages plans to ensure all fleet maintenance is up to DOT and company standards.
  • Partners with all NY Ops Stakeholders in the creation and sustainability of a professional development program.
  • Looks to source internally and externally for professional development material and programs.
  • Promotes the cross pollination of NY Operations jobs into other Directorates within National Grid.
  • Supports National Grid DEI objectives in the development of a diversified team in warehouse operations, fleet maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Exceptional ability to manage and foster relationships with vendors and 3pl partners.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree and5+ years of work experience as a people leader in vehicle fleet maintenance isrequired.
  • Experience in the Gas and Electric utility industry is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of fleet management, operations, and relevant budgeting.
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills with experience managing a staff of 200 + employees in a multi-site environment.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of local motor vehicle laws, OSHA, CDL, DOT, and other pertinent regulatory requirements is required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and SAP.
  • A valid driver's license with a safe driving record is required.

Salary:

Upstate, NY: $157,000 - $185,000

Downstate, NY: $189,000 - $222,000

Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
