Position Summary:

The Community Health Interventions Lab ( CHIL ) (https://www.ubchilab.com) at the University at Buffalo is looking to hire a Community Outreach Coordinator to support our mission of creating equitable and just food systems. We are home of the Mobile Market Coalition ( MMC ) (https://www.myveggievan.org/) , a national network of practitioners, researchers, funders, and policymakers advancing mobile produce markets as essential infrastructure for a responsive and resilient food system in which everyone has access to healthy food. We support organizations interested in starting or expanding mobile market programs by providing technical assistance, fostering collaboration, advancing research, and supporting advocacy initiatives. Locally, we are developing a campus-based mobile market program to not only address student nutrition insecurity, but to also create a living lab that provides social entrepreneurship opportunities for students and allows for further development and testing of mobile market innovations.

This position would provide direct technical assistance and training (TA&T) for organizations interested in starting or learning how to sustain, troubleshoot, and grow a mobile market program. To execute the delivery of TA&T, the coordinator will draw from existing knowledge, our current resources and research, and our network of mobile market experts and peers. In addition to providing support and education, this position will also manage the campus-based mobile market, UB Veggie Van.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of innovative TA&T, including market-related webinars, meetings, and conferences as well as peer-to-peer knowledge sharing through design and facilitation of community of practice.

  • Coordination and delivery of TA&T for mobile market stakeholders.

  • Oversee campus-based mobile market operations, including procurement, inventory management, and scheduling.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field and up to 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to actively listen and identify mobile market organization’s needs and collaboratively develop tailored plans to reach their operational goals.

  • Willingness and enthusiasm to engage community members face-to-face about their local food system on university campus and surrounding Buffalo communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with group facilitation and engagement.

  • Experience working with a mobile produce market or retail environment.

  • Knowledge/experience working with food insecure and/or lower-income populations.

  • Experience with coaching or delivering education curriculum.

  • Research experience.
