M&T Bank Audit Data Analytics Specialist (Hybrid - Buffalo, NY) in Buffalo, New York

** This will be a hybrid position in Buffalo, NY requiring in-office work three days/week.

Overview:

Provides empirically derived analysis support to the Audit Department; a primary objective of these data analysis activities is to provide continuous auditing capabilities that allow Audit to maintain risk and control awareness and complete testing on an ongoing basis. Provides audit teams with the capability to expand the scope of testing techniques (e.g., complete control testing on entire populations of transactions in lieu of sample-based techniques). Assist in developing, executing, and monitoring of analytic programs, supporting identification of adverse changes in the risk or control environment, and escalating concerns to management for research and disposition.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the implementing data analytic programs for use during conduct of regular audit examinations and/or Audit’s continuous auditing program.

  • Obtain data from disparate sources, link information, check data integrity, and complete basic exploratory analyses.

  • Work with more experienced team members to identify data needs. Independently take action to obtain the needed data, complete preliminary analyses, and provide results to other team members or audit teams.

  • Provide analytical support to audit teams during the conduct of audit examinations.

  • Assist with business-as-usual related activities (e.g., refresh dashboards, complete data pulls for audit team, monitor dashboard activity etc.) to ensure data analytic tools are consistently updated accordingly.

  • Remain current on industry trends on data analytic and continuous auditing techniques and activities. Increase proficiency in using multiple data analytics tools.

  • Assist in creating training materials on data analytics tools and techniques to Audit personnel.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

This position is dedicated to the Audit Department’s data analytic efforts, which is an emerging practice in the industry and an expectation of external regulatory agencies. Data Analytic programs and techniques are receiving heightened scrutiny from the organization’s examiners. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected for this position.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years’ relevant professional work experience in an auditing or banking function, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 2 years’ relevant professional work experience in an auditing or banking function

  • General knowledge of audit theory or banking industry

  • Proficient knowledge of pertinent word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software

  • General knowledge of pertinent data analytic technologies, with an ability to gain proficiency

  • Proven verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-driven with ability to identify opportunities and achieve results

  • Proven analytical skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Proven prioritization skills

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • Audit experience, ideally in banking/financial services internal audit and/or public accounting

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $60,890.34 - $101,483.90 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
