Northrop Grumman Assembler 2 (2nd Shift) in Buffalo, New York

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking an Assembler 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems in Buffalo, New York ; an organization focused on development and production of state-of-the-art Simulation Systems solutions.

The Assembler performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies, such as modules, boards, panels, drawers, frames, and cables. Works from diagrams and drawings, makes initial layouts, and uses hand and/or power tools, jigs, and saws. Makes continuity checks on work in process and completed work. May conduct quality inspections on processing line in accordance with quality specifications. May disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test experimental or prototype assemblies and subassemblies according to specifications and under simulated conditions.

The chosen candidate will need to successfully complete in-house workmanship criteria training classes for continued employment. This position will primarily perform Microelectronics Production Center (MPC) processes, but may also perform actions in any of the other Manufacturing areas: Circuit Card Assembly (CCA), Electronic Component Assembly/Rack (ECA/Rack) or the Highbay Assembly Area (HBAA).

This is a second shift position.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma with 2 years of assembly or electronic experience; or an Associate's degree in an electronic or technical discipline.

  • Ability to perform tasks from written directions and drawings.

  • Ability to solder.

  • Ability to perform tasks under microscope on very small assemblies with outstanding manual dexterity and precision.

  • Demonstrated high level of attention to detail and quality.

  • Ability to move objects weighing up to 40 pounds from one location to another.

  • Ability to change between Amherst building locations based upon need.

  • Ability to wear safety gear.

  • U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Previous or current certifications in IPC-610 and/or J-STD 001.

  • Prior microelectronics and/or chip and wire assembly experience.

  • Prior automated equipment skills such as Surface Mount Technology (SMT), MRSI and/or automated and wedge bonding equipment.

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring semi-rigid cabling and building assemblies which require semi-rigid wiring.

  • Ability to perform tasks in a high-bay facility including ability to use safety harness equipment to perform tasks by climbing on trailers and in exterior environments.

  • Ability to learn and perform tasks independent of continuous guidance, assistance, and supervision.

  • Demonstrated success in working in a team environment and strong interpersonal skills.
