Job Summary

Bowdoin College seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Manager to take the helm of our Workday Student implementation project, going fully live in Fall 2025. This critical role will oversee the completion of a partially finished Workday project that aims to enhance our institutional efficiency and support our mission. After implementation, this role will continue to lead high value technology projects across the college. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in project management, a deep understanding of Workday or other similar ERP systems, and the ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Take ownership of the existing Workday project, ensuring that all aspects are completed successfully and aligned with institutional goals.

  • Project Planning and Execution:

  • Adopt and execute existing project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource forecasting/allocation, adjusting as needed. If necessary, develop additional project plans.

  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.

  • Work with an established testing team to ensure all testing is executed within the prescribed timeline.

  • Project Governance:

  • Work with Executive Sponsors, Steering Committee, Workday Advisory Group, and Functional Work Groups to ensure adherence to the Workday Project Governance and Guiding Principles and full transparency of decision making.

  • Provide updates to program stakeholders throughout the life of the overall Workday Program, escalating issues as needed.

  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and administrative leaders, to understand their needs and expectations. Facilitate communication and ensure that project deliverables meet their requirements.

  • Team Management: Lead and motivate the project team, including both internal staff and external consultants. Foster a collaborative environment to ensure high performance and accountability. Delegate work to virtual assistant and/or PMO Student Worker, as needed.

  • Budget and Resource Management: Manage the project budget, track expenditures, and report on overall project budget, while ensuring resources are used efficiently.

  • Change Management and Training: Oversee change management activities to ensure smooth adoption of Workday systems. Assist in the development of training materials and support end-user training to maximize system utilization.

  • Quality Assurance: Coordinate with Workday’s Delivery Assurance team to ensure the implementation meets high standards of quality and aligns with best practices.

  • Problem Solving: Address and resolve issues or obstacles that arise during the project lifecycle. Provide innovative solutions and lead informed decision-making to keep the project on track.

Benefits and Pay:

  • The annual salary range for this exempt position is expected to be: $121,500 – $130,500

    Education/Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Project Management, or a related field.

  • Strong proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences, with the ability to build strong relationships.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing cross-functional teams and multiple external vendors

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate challenges and devise effective solutions.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a dynamic environment with a high degree of flexibility.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree or Project Management Professional ( PMP ) certification preferred.

    Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in project management, with a proven track record of successfully managing large-scale IT projects, ideally Workday implementations.

  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Workday systems and functionality.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Workday HCM , Finance, or other modules is highly desirable.

  • Experience with Agile or Scrum frameworks

    Standard Work Days and Hours

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.

  • This is an exempt level position that requires the time commitment to complete the essential duties of the position.
