Job Summary

Bowdoin College is located in Brunswick Maine with a student population of almost 2000. We make everything from scratch and are consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop, and organic garden that all supply food to our 2 dining halls and 3 retail locations. This position generally reports to Thorne Hall.

The Dining Aide is responsible for all general sanitation duties. These duties include:

  • Daily operation of the dish room and pots and pans cleaning area.

  • Performing sanitation duties as assigned which include but is not limited to, sweeping and mopping floors, wiping walls, tables, and chairs, cleaning employee restrooms, all kitchen cooking equipment, refrigerated, frozen, and dry storage area, and loading dock area.

  • Ensures that proper sanitation and safety standards are maintained.

  • Maintaining serving line supplies, including milk and beverage machines.

  • Washing and cutting vegetables and assisting in salad room.

  • Stocking salad bar and deli areas.

  • Refilling and replacing condiments (i.e., salt/pepper shakers, napkins, sugar, and jelly).

  • Stacking dishware, pots, pans, and glassware for service.

  • Occasionally assists with other kitchen and catering duties.

Pay, Benefits, and Perks:

  • The starting pay range for this position will be $18.00/hour. Compensation based on your skills and experience.

  • New employees in Dining will receive a $500 sign-on bonus (½ paid at first check and ½ paid after 90 days of eligibility requirements are met).

    Education/Skills Requirements

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Commitment to customer service.

  • Ability to understand and practice recycling and other sustainability practices.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Ability to follow written and oral direction.

    Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Required:

  • No prior experience necessary.

Preferred:

  • Someone who has an eye for detail and is a thorough cleaner.

  • Some previous related experience.

  • Demonstrated reliability as well as neat and clean appearance.

  • ServSafe certification (Dining employees will be provided training within their first six months to become certified).

    Standard Work Days and Hours

Available Shifts:

  • Option #1 – Sunday and Monday: Off, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 8 am – 4 pm, Friday and Saturday: 12:30 pm – 8:30 pm. This position is a full-time, year round position working 40 hours/week for 52 weeks (1.00 FTE ).

The role will be required to work occasional overtime, holidays, and during weather emergencies, in addition to working major college events and weekends (i.e., Parent’s Weekend, Commencement, and Reunions).
