ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Educational Support High School Youth Tutor will tutor youth, both individually and in groups, in any area they are experiencing difficulty. Candidates must take initiative to ensure youth are meeting on scheduled date and time. Candidates must facilitate project based learning, job readiness and career exploration workshops. The Tutor will be responsible for the scheduling and provision of homework help and tutoring sessions. The Tutor will assist participants with homework assignments and ensure all work is neat and accurate. Candidates will monitor youths progress and report progress to Counselor Advocate. Candidates will support the Counselor Advocate in the achievement of program objectives. The Tutor will inform the Counselor Advocate of any issues that may arise and provide a written statement when necessary. The Tutor will conduct any other activities deemed necessary by the Counselor Advocate.

COMPETENCIES

  • Two years prior tutoring experience preferred

  • Must have a genuine love for working with children and must want to serve as a mentor

  • Ability to obtain Staff Exclusion List (SEL), Department of Health (DOH) fingerprint and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

    EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

  • Candidate must possess high school diploma/HSE diploma. Working towards a college degree preferred

  • Must score a minimum of a 12.0 in one or more sections of the TABE Reading and Mathematics standardized test
