ABOUT THE JOB:
The Mental Health Consultant will function in an ACS borough office as the lead clinical consultant on mental health issues impacting families known to child welfare.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide training to ACS staff in mental health assessment, diagnosis and service planning.
  • In conjunction with the Team Coordinator and other consultant staff help develop a clinical team that provides coordinated consultation in cases where there is co-morbidity.
  • Complete required documentation of clinical consults provided within the requisite time frames.
  • Conduct focus groups and other linkages for assessment with ACS / Child protective staff regarding mental health issues / information to assess training needs.
  • In conjunction with the Team Coordinator create linkages with mental health providers for resource / information dissemination.
  • Providing case-specific consultations may involve direct contact with clients, providing for a more informed consultation service.
  • Where indicated and assessed, may have some level of direct family involvement with home / community visiting in conjunction with ACS / Child protective staff to model effective strategies for engagement, assessment and problem solving.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Master in Social Work, LMSW / LCSW or Masters in Psychology with 3-5 years in the mental health field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:

  • Knowledge of the child welfare system preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health and related issues.
  • Willingness to work the New York City Holiday schedule.
  • Domestic violence and / or substance knowledge helpful.
