ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Community Food Retail Manager, the Farmers Market Associate will provide seasonal on-site support to the day-to-day operations of the RiseBoro Farmers Markets. Additionally, the Farmers Market Associate will provide limited administrative support with record keeping, data collection, and marketing. The Farmers Market Associate will be actively engaged in client, customer, and vendor relationship-building in the market environment. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Load, unload, stock, organize, and transport market inventory for sale at the market

  • Conduct SNAP/EBT and OTC transactions using the TotilPay application

  • Distribute EBT tokens and nutrition benefit coupons accordingly, as well as complete card/cash purchases on the Square POS system

  • Provide customer assistance with questions pertaining to payment methods, basic market information, and vendor offerings

  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of tents and tables for the RiseBoro information booth; provide vendor support with setup and breakdown assistance as needed

  • Provide support with the RiseBoro Farmers Market social media strategy and implementation

  • Engage in neighborhood outreach through distributing program communications and advertisements i.e. posters, flyers, etc.

    COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Must possess strong communication skills with the ability to speak comfortably and courteously to a diverse population, while maintaining a professional and warm demeanor

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and customer service skills

  • Conversational English/Spanish speaker preferred

  • Familiarity with Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY area preferred

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions required

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs throughout the day

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods (i.e. 6-8 hours) and in most climates, excluding severe weather

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule; early morning and weekend schedule availability as required (Markets will take place on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays)

  • Experience processing cash, SNAP/EBT, and/or credit card transactions preferred

  • Commitment to RiseBoro’s mission, vision, and values

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and/or Google equivalents

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality, particularly with client information

    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • A minimum of one (1) year of customer service or community engagement work experience preferred
