Where is this opportunity located?  

Position located in Brookings, South Dakota. Candidates must be enrolled as a student and registered in at least 12 credits.  Preferred applicant should be available to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. 

What is the compensation?   

We also financially recognize students with GPA of 3.5 and above with a $500 bonus each semester (Academic Excellence Reward) completed while employed.

What will the work look like for me?  

Our purchasing philosophy is to build ongoing partnerships with our suppliers and coordinate the material flow with the manufacturing groups in a lean manufacturing environment. The materials management function is the beginning of the manufacturing, made to order, pull manufacturing process. 

  • Become knowledgeable of purchasing functions and procedures.  

  • Work as a member of the Material Management Team to insure a steady flow of material through the plant.  

  • Process purchase requisitions for goods and services, including order entry, order placement, and expediting.  

  • Develop working relationships with outside vendors by communicating effectively via phone, email, and face-to-face meetings.  

  • Assist in analyzing daily reports and procuring materials to most effectively assure component supply and prevent stock-outs, while managing inventory levels.  

  • Work effectively as a team member, helping when and where needed, make and implement suggestions for product and process improvement.  Consistently complete quality work in a timely manner.  

  • Complete projects and other duties as needed or assigned.  

  • Become knowledgeable of company policies and procedures.  

  • Regularly and reliably work scheduled hours.

    Qualifications

    Academic Requirements:

  • The preferred candidate must be enrolled as a student and registered in at least 12 credits in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related programs.  

  • The preferred candidate will be in their sophomore or junior year of school.

  • Only strong academic performers in undergraduate coursework will be considered.

  • Must maintain an acceptable GPA.

  • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this position.  

    Other Requirements: 

  • Applicants should be available to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.   

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.    

  • Good oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, self-motivation.

  • Self-motivated, flexible, organized, and strong need to work as a team player. Attention to details is a must.  

  • Enthusiasm for learning and working on new projects and flexibility to ever-changing priorities and responsibilities.  

  • General computer skills including accurate keyboarding skills and ability to learn and navigate new software and tools.  

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
