POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Vocational Counselor is critical to supporting reintegration and stabilization within community for IMT program consumers. They will provide low-threshold educational and job readiness services including assessment, training, and referrals to relevant programs. They will also identify/create job opportunities for consumers and match qualified consumers with these employment opportunities. The Vocational Counselor will be responsible for developing relationships with employers, successfully placing consumers into these jobs, and providing on going retention services and supports to both the employer and the consumers. This position reports to Program Director. Pays:$62,000

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct education and vocational assessments, and work with consumers to develop detailed service plans.

  • Provide low-threshold job readiness services.

  • Facilitate job readiness training including resume and interviewing skills, time management skills, employee-employer communications, etc.

  • Provide referrals to educational and/or vocational training opportunities and maintain engagement with consumers to support their retention in such programs.

  • Make sales calls on employers who have open positions that candidates qualify to fill and obtain job orders for those positions with Seedco consumers in the Fatherhood program. * Develop and maintain employer relationships that can be incorporated into a job bank.

  • Provide career coaching and job search strategies to all program consumers.

  • Ensure that program consumers are linked to sustainable employment opportunities when they are ready to do so.

  • Provide and/or facilitate ongoing seminars, workshops, and industry specific training as needed.

  • Provide individual job retention support.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred.

  • At least 3 years of previous relevant experience in a mental or substance use disorders required, experience with individuals experiencing homelessness a plus.

  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues with diplomacy and discretion and be able to multi-task with strong organizational skills

  • Strong writing, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills required.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Commitment to cultural diversity and sensitivity.
