Position Summary:

The Security Operations Manager ensures a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors at the New York Botanical Garden. Oversee the security operations on assigned shift(s), with an emphasis on managing the departments data collection and operational reports. The Security Manager will be responsible for the development and coordination of security programs and initiatives for the NYBG under the direction of Senior Security Management, ensuring that they meet the needs and support the physical protection of the people and property of the Garden.

Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and actively helps to build and maintain an inclusive organizational culture throughout the institution.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

· Ensures a safe environment for all students, NYBG staff, and visitors while overseeing security operations on assigned shift(s).

· Assist Senior Security Management manage data collection and maintain the Security Dashboard, Security Reports, Daily Information Packets and prepare monthly and annual reports as directed.

· Oversee the scheduling of officers assigned to ensure a safe environment.

· Assist Senior Security Management with developing, coordinating, managing and communicating the security plan and, through proactive leadership, engage the security staff to maximize the efficiency of the operation.

· Assist with NYBG Exhibitions and onsite Events.

· Actively manage and supervise security personnel on assigned shift(s) and enforce NYBG departmental policies and procedures.

· Conducts on-site training sessions for students, faculty, and staff regarding emergency response, security awareness, and other safety and security related issues.

· Responds to emergencies as needed and promptly advises the Senior Director of conditions.

Qualifications:

· Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field of study

· Must be a NYS Licensed Security Officer

· At least five years of professional security or law enforcement experience required.

· Driver's license required.

· Ability to use a wide range of technical equipment.

· Broad knowledge of safety procedures, access control, physical security, and security management.

· Ability to interact cordially and communicate with staff, direct reports and the public

· Must be able to pass any N.Y. City or State-required training or other qualifications for licensing

· Effective oral and written communication skills

· Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively

· Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately

· Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams

· Attention to detail

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Long periods of standing, sitting, patrolling. Must be able to promptly respond to emergencies, as needed. Must be able to move/lift up to 40 pounds. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, as well as moderate to loud work conditions.

Baseline Work Schedule:

Tuesday – Saturday 12am – 8am

Salary: $65,700 - $73,000
