POSITION DETAILS

The Accounting Unit of the Business Office is responsible for managing the College’s overall business affairs. Its main goal is to maintain financial records, establish and manage bank accounts, and report on the fiscal operations of the College for the following non-tax levy (related entities) financial resources: Hostos Community College Foundation, Hostos Community College Association, and the Hostos Community College Auxiliary Enterprises Corporation.

The Revenue Accountant applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) definitions to analyze financial information, conduct account reconcilition and monthly closing; and maintain audit trails for assigned accounts and supporting documentation. The Revenue Accountant is also responsible for the managing and accounting of Gross to Net Revenue Adjustments and all associated general ledger accounts.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Business and Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance with GAAP.

  • Update daily cash reports for Tution & Fees and non-tax entities using information from bank reports/statements as well as Cash Deposit reports from the Bursar Office.

  • Create trial balances, bank reconcilitions (various business units), and financial schedules.

  • Reimburse students, agencies, and other entities using Microsoft Great Plains/CUNYFirst.

  • Play a key role in month-end closing activities (preparation of journal entries for cash movement, departmental receipts, refunds, revenues, adjustments, etc.)

  • Responsible for reconciliation of accrued and deferred revenue and expense accounts.

  • Analyze revenue, cash, and projections to prepare monthly GL account reconciliations.

  • Participate and support in the preparation of schedules and information for various audits.

  • Additional duties and projects as assigned based on business or management needs.

  • Work closely with Central Office, Bursar’s Office, and TAP Financial Specialist to reconcile paid and outstanding amounts as well as respond to inquiries.

  • Assist with matters related to Auxiliary and Culture & Arts-receipts, disbursements, payroll.

  • Supervise Accounting Assistants, College Assistants, and other support staff.

  • Essential duties require on-campus presence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • At least two years experience in higher education

  • Experience with PeopleSoft (CUNYFirst)

  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours when required
