Job Overview:

The Electrical Engineer applies their conceptual knowledge of electrical engineering and with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward electrical problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures, as well as building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Electrical Engineer understands key business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations through analysis of possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Perform FEED, Studies, and detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on more complex and demanding engineering tasks.

  • Apply knowledge and skills to complete varied assignments.

  • Is familiar with the use of codes and standards.

  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures.

  • Prioritize and organize own work to meet deadlines.

  • Is able to coordinate work with design team.

  • Focus on completing work within budgets.

  • Clearly communicate and explain information in straightforward engineering activities.

  • Working knowledge of English, both oral and written.

  • Prepare key project deliverables, including (but not limited to) the following: o Specifications and Datasheets o Electrical Load List and Summaryo One-line diagrams o Motor control schematics o Electrical building and equipment layouts o Bills of Material o Electrical calculations (Cable sizing, load flow, short circuit, lighting) o Conceptual studies and calculations o Cost and planning studies

  • Support Project Development and Coordination, including (but not limited to) the following: o Maintain and promote a focus on McDermott’s end-product throughout engineering, fabrication, or construction o Report to and coordinate with the electrical engineering project lead and electrical task lead, as applicable o Communicate with electrical and other disciplines of engineering and design o Coordinate and manage change with full awareness of project impact o Assume responsibility for cost, schedule, quantity and budget control

  • Develop and review vendor packages, including (but not limited to) the following: o Create requisition packages for Substations, Transformers, and Electrical material o Create subcontract packages for Heat Tracing, Cathodic Protection, and Electrical Installation o Review supplier documents for electrical and non-electrical packages o Attend Inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of electrical equipment, motors, and associated skids

  • Provide Site Support, including (but not limited to) the following: o Provide off-site and/or on-site technical support to Construction personnel o Coordinate with office personnel to resolve issues as needed o Provide technical support for Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of electrical equipment o Assist with pre-commissioning, energization, commissioning, and start-up, as required by the project

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 3-8 yrs. in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design

  • Prefer Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 1-3 yrs. years of detailed electrical engineering experience

  • Familiarity with the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines, including IEC and the latest scientific and engineering methods

  • Technical knowledge of the detailed design engineering process

  • Experience with Smart Plant Electrical (SPEL), ETAP, and MS Office Suite including Excel and Word
