Maintenance Worker 1 - Utilities

JOB SUMMARY

  • Provides general unskilled and semi-skilled labor in the maintenance and construction of water and sewer utilities
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of water lines, sewer lines, utility service lines, valves, fire hydrants, manholes and water meters
  • May operate associated equipment, such as air compressors, jackhammers, rock drills and similar equipment
  • May operate sewer vacuum/flushing equipment, sewer inspection and video equipment, boring machines, dump trucks, backhoes, tractors and similar equipment
  • May handle explosives ? May locate and mark underground utilities
  • Works overtime as required and serves on 24-hour on-call rotation
  • Performs other related duties as required

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED required, with some water and/or sewer maintenance experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position
  • Ability to utilize descriptive data and information such as regulations, blueprints, correspondence and general operating manual
  • Ability to exert moderate to heavy physical stress in an outdoor utility maintenance and heavy construction environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
