About the Opportunity

Jacobs are offering an exciting opportunity to join our growing team of System Engineering professionals to work on a range of projects for our diverse client portfolio that covers Critical National Infrastructure, National Security, Defence and Nuclear market sectors.

Our team is growing fast and we are looking for a self-starting, motivated and experienced Principal System Safety Engineer to operate across the full spectrum of safety engineering activities in support of the design, development, integration, delivery and in-service support of complex technical projects.

You will support the delivery of our existing projects and help to secure future business, enabling us to evolve and grow within our target markets, whilst giving you the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and interesting projects and programmes across the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Government portfolio. This role provides a fantastic career opportunity, allowing you to join a growing team and develop your skills and experience under the guidance and mentorship of our senior system engineers.

You will have the opportunity to work across multiple market sectors to suit your interests and career aspirations under a hybrid working arrangement that best suits each client’s needs. Training and development opportunities specific to the project needs, the role and those of your own career plan will be available and supported by the company and team.

Reporting to the System Engineering Manager, typical activities that you would undertake include:

  • Definition and maintenance of the System Safety and Environmental Management Plan (S&EMP).

  • Provide technical assistance to Business Development, generating work estimates for prospective projects.

  • Inform/review complex system architectures and design, ensuring the application of safety principles at a system level.

  • Management and approval of all safety engineering activities and artefacts executed at system and product levels.

  • Collating and presenting system safety arguments to demonstrate compliance to standards.

  • Reviewing and accepting safety, environmental and legislative requirements compliance from Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), bespoke OEM generate and COTS based products.

  • Conduct security reviews and audits.

  • Maintain familiarity with legislation and regulations of relevance.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Experience in leading and executing safety activities associated with the delivery of complex system integration projects (e.g., HAZOPS analysis, application of ALARP).

  • Experience in creating compelling system safety arguments to demonstrate compliance to requirements and standards.

  • Experience of Def-Stan 00-55 and 00-56 Defence standards (or equivalent) is desirable.

  • Experience in the generation of safety requirements for system and product level.

  • Experience with legislation associated with safety and environmental principles.

  • Experience of working on projects delivering to the UK MoD is desirable, but not essential.

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to manage stakeholder relationships.

  • Ability to work flexibly across a wide variety of projects as part of a diverse team of people.
