We are looking to recruit an Associate / Associate Director in Bristol with a great understanding of the UK planning systems, who is excited to deliver great projects for our clients.

WSP has one of the largest teams of infrastructure planners and consenting specialists in the UK. We are growing our Infrastructure Planning team in the South West with senior level town planners who have experience of leading and delivering infrastructure projects under the Planning Act, the Town and Country Planning Act, Electricity Act and Transport and Works Act.

We are leaders in securing consent for major infrastructure projects across all sectors, including energy, water, rail, road, and local government. Our clients include EDF Energy, SSE, National Grid, National Gas, Eni UK, East West Rail, National Highways, South West Water and many more. We work at all stages of the consenting process from early feasibility, application preparation and delivery of consents through construction.

  • Putting clients at the heart of what you do, providing technical advice to clients and managing their consenting requirements.

  • Preparing consent applications which may include applications under the Planning Act 2008, the Town and Country Planning Act, the Electricity Act, the Transport and Works Act and others.

  • Organising and managing work in a professional and responsible manner, collaborating closely across multi-disciplinary planning, stakeholder, land, engineering and environmental teams.

  • Project management with effective budgetary control.

  • Leading and preparing tender submissions and where required presenting to clients during the tender process.

  • Desk studies, research, data management and report writing.

  • Business development.

  • Effective delegation of work to junior planners, and supporting them in their career development.

As the successful candidate, you will need to be commercially aware and familiar with managing programme and budgets as part of project delivery. You will be responsible for managing and delivering into a broad range of consultancy and consents work including bidding, design/optioneering, assessment, consenting and approvals during construction and delivery.

You will have experience at business development as well as project delivery and be experienced at working in a multi-disciplinary environment.

You will be experienced at the preparation of all planning documentation for infrastructure projects, engagement with key stakeholders including planning authorities and statutory consultees. The role requires a good grounding in statutory procedures applicable to the consenting of infrastructure projects, including EIA.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this post which includes exposure to both internal and external clients.

  • Degree level qualification in town planning.

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject.

  • Chartered status (MRTPI).

  • Experience of delivering planning consents for infrastructure projects, working with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Sound knowledge and experience of the UK planning systems.
