Electro-Mechanical Test Technician

Role Overview :

In a time of exciting transformation for Otis, continuing the company’s path of change, our Engineering organization is hiring for an Electro-Mechanical Test Technician within our Farmington, Connecticut Lead Design Center (LDC). In this role, you will be involved in the design, fabrication, development, test and release of products worldwide. Our goal is to safely deliver accurate results on time to our internal customers and maximizing safety and performance to our external customers with reliable, secure, elevator functionality. Initially, this role will focus on Coated Steel Belt Qualification testing and easily expand over time into all electrical and mechanical testing. The location will begin in the QAC and expand to support all of Test Engineering including the QAC, Bristol Test Tower and Farmington. The position has the potential to expand also into being a Hoistway Technician if progression of the individual and the organization lead that way.

On a typical day you will:

  • Job performance will be measured in adherence to EHS policies, the integrity of test results and timely completion of projects.

  • Demonstration of a commitment to customer requirements and delight.

  • Completion of qualification testing for CSB and other assigned test requests.

  • Develop, build and operate electrical and mechanical test equipment for use during the development and testing of elevator systems.

  • Proficient in the use of basic hand tools, light machine work and electrical test equipment.

  • Prepare and conduct testing on electrical and mechanical components.

  • Perform hoisting and rigging responsibilities.

What You Will Need to be Successful :

Otis is looking for a strong collaborator and self-motivator with a passion for working with their hands to contribute as a team member. The candidate is likely to have a hobby or interest outside of work that is similar in nature.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma with an aptitude for the technical or skilled trades.

  • 2-5 years of electrical/mechanical technician work experience is required.

  • Aptitude for understanding test procedures and qualification requirements

  • Aptitude for building, troubleshooting and operation of electromechanical test fixtures.

  • Aptitude for troubleshooting control systems and drives.

  • Strong team working skills with project teams and other technicians.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are essential.

  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English and computer literate

  • Must be able to read and understand both mechanical and electrical engineering drawings and implement their requirements.

  • Proficient in basic mechanical and electrical fabrication.

  • Proficient in dimensional checks and measurements.

  • Experience in safe hoisting and rigging practices.

  • Must be able to work at elevated heights and in confined spaces.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • AA/AS degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship, or other post high school training (two years duration)

  • 5-10 years of electrical/mechanical technician work experience is preferred.

  • Experience with building, troubleshooting and operation of electromechanical test fixtures.

  • Experience with troubleshooting control systems and drives.
