The Role

The Staff Software Engineer is responsible for a wide variety of investigative research and pilot technology development, advancing Stryker capabilities and supporting the long-term strategy of the R&D Lab. The Staff Software Engineer provides technical software development skills, UI/UX, innovative thinking, and collaborative support, while engaging with Stryker divisions and University partners to deliver new technologies and platforms.

This role is a 2 year Fulltime Contract, with the possibility to extend.

What you will do

  • Work under minimal supervision and support the design, development, modification, evaluation of software applications to support R&D project objectives.

  • Translate user needs to design inputs, specifications, product concepts and complex/system level design with some guidance.

  • Work closely with peers in software engineering, software quality assurance and project and product management to develop software that meets customer, system and quality requirements.

  • Implement concepts and develop functional UIUX prototypes, incorporating feedback from clinicians, academics, and stakeholders to continuously improve the software interfaces.

  • Support University partners with technical work, providing insight and expertise on Stryker systems.

  • Produce quality code in alignment with Stryker coding guidelines and contribute to documentation in alignment with Stryker SDLC

  • Assist with raw data extraction, interpretation and data engineering from Stryker equipment and assets on an as-needed basis.

  • Presentation of work to internal stakeholders including R&D Lab members and external R&D partners including healthcare staff and technical personnel.

What You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, computer science or related field required.

  • Experience working on medical related software innovations preferred

  • Working knowledge of software platform development including applicable programming languages (esp. C++, MATLAB/Python).

  • 4+ years of front and back end development experience.

  • Excellent analytical skills, demonstrated systems thinking ability and experience working across software, mechanical and electrical subsystems.

  • Demonstrated software design problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and system troubleshooting, we well as system validation and documentation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present issues, plans and objectives.

  • Ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams, including stakeholders from multiple institutions.

  • Motivated, resourceful, ambitious, enthusiastic and attentive to detail.

  • Demonstrated technical impact on a design project or product platform.
