Job Summary:

The Hospital Services Engineer (HSE) is responsible for (i) selling Messer's design and build value-added bulk medical oxygen Hospital Services to hospitals in collaboration with the Hospital Account Managers as well as (ii) safely managing the successful execution of the build services at hospital sites. For the application sales process the HSE is responsible for: evaluating prospects, developing the technical solution that meets all applicable codes plus additional customer and Messer requirements, documenting the value creation, writing and presenting proposals , and supporting the Account Manager in closing the deal. For the project execution build services, the HSE is responsible for safely implementing the agreed solution on time and on budget by providing overall project management, coordinating with both internal and external contractors, and managing the interface with the hospital and their contractors.

Principal Responsibilities:

Project Execution (Build) Responsibilities:

  • Safely manage multiple bulk medical oxygen project/installation
  • Coordinate between Sales, internal technical resources, Asset Management and the Customer to establish project objectives, scope, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with technical support resources (internal or external) and procurement to obtain required project material, equipment costs, labor, and delivery times to develop proposed customer
  • Oversee and manage all project activities; ensure project compliance with all required Messer and regulatory codes, standards, drawings, and practices.
  • Establish and execute project plans to include schedules, budgets, all required drawings/schematics, procurement of equipment and components, startup/commissioning, customer training, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reporting, and other required project administrative
  • Prepare project budgets, internal funding requests, contractor bids with all required supporting
  • Execute project with Messer hospital customers, contractors, vendors, and internal resources for the successful execution of the project. Maintain expected project profitability and schedule.
  • Identify, manage, document, and execute all Out-of-Scope or Change order items.
  • Conduct frequent project reviews with stakeholders and management.
  • Assist in project commissioning and start up. Provide customer safety training, O&M (Operations and Maintenance), manuals transmittal, and all required handover documentation.

Application Sales Responsibilities:

  • Differentiate Messer's design and build offerings from competitors by understanding hospital stakeholder needs and objectives and applying a value added sales approach
  • Support the Hospital Account Managers in winning business in a team (e.g., opportunity qualification, design of technical solution and determination of value creation, understanding of customer/prospect feedback regarding solution, support in development of solution cost, proposal development for technical solutions)
  • Gain an understanding of typical medical gas supply contract terms.
  • Build relationships with multiple functions in hospital organizations. (e.g., operations, maintenance, engineering, respiratory care)
  • Maintain the existing customer base through customer process knowledge and technical expertise and assists in relationship
  • Responsible for obtaining insight regarding industry trends and opportunities for development of new technologies or services.
  • Develop and employs industry network to enhance Messer prioritization and performance (e.g., industry players, complimentary equipment/service providers, academics).
  • Responsible for actions that are precursors to successful value creation such as customer process audits, and safety training and awareness
  • Maintain technical knowledge and competence in Medical bulk oxygen station design and build services; as well as applicable codes and regulations.

Required skills:

  • Ability to effectively interact with stakeholders in person and virtually
  • Understanding of industrial equipment and controls, including bulk medical oxygen systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems/equipment
  • Computer skills in MS office suite, MSProject, AutoCad (drafting programs)
  • Ability to read and understand piping & instrumentation diagrams, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, layout drawings and similar

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of Engineering/Project Management experience or a graduate of the Messer Graduate Development Program
  • Demonstrated experience in "industrial equipment'' project management

Other Quailifications

  • Professional Engineers license a plus
  • Experience with Industrial Gases or petrochemical projects is a plus
