Job Summary

Messer Americas runs a strong project management system for implementation of our capital projects. The Project Manager is accountable for executing the assigned projects, safely, to specification, on time and on budget. Our Project Managers lead multi-discipline and multi-functional teams to deliver these projects for Messer. The Principal Project manager is Messer’s most senior project management position, implementing our largest, most complex, and most critical projects.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Oversee proposal development and project execution of major capital projects on behalf of Messer Gases (The operations arm of The Messer Group)

  • Manage all project activities throughout the project cycle; responsible for managing larger and more complex projects. -In addition, responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of up to 2 full-time project engineers, plus 2 to 3 contract project managers.

  • Manage the outsourcing of discipline engineering

  • At the direction of the Department Head develop standards and procedures to increase department productivity

  • Provide business with capital estimates with the appropriate level of accuracy for proposed projects, especially in the upfront stages where GOM order estimates are required to determine to go/no go decisions in the project feasibility phase

  • Interface with BD/GBU/Prod Mgmt/Ops stakeholders to determine project scope

  • Develop an effective Project Definition & Execution Strategy (PDES) that enables a high degree of confidence in the project scope schedule and budget

  • Qualify vendors, negotiate vendor pricing and bidding in conjunction with Supply Management

  • Execute the project safely and on budget, tracking costs to provide timely updates on spending relative to budget, managing vendors and contractors and tracking the schedule to complete on time.

  • Provide a quality project while minimizing unbudgeted change orders.

  • Interface with local permitting agencies — Organize required internal activities such as safety reviews, Hazops, MOCs and punch lists.

  • Ensure that all internal standards and procedures are followed as well as relevant codes and applicable regulations.

  • Maintain effective communication of progress and issues with formal monthly reports on material variances to scope, schedule or budget or substantial usage of contingency especially prior to the construction phase.

  • Deliver complete project documentation at project conclusion

  • Act as a technical resource to plants to develop problem solutions or needed improvements

  • Participate in interdepartmental initiatives

  • Delivery of a safe quality project on schedule and within budget

  • Agreement by plant management that objectives are met, all documentation delivered, and all punch list items resolved/agreed.

  • Complete paper and electronic documentation

    Required Skills

  • Familiarity with design and supply of Ultra High Purity industrial gas systems

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CHE or MechE

  • 10+ plus years working in or with the Electronics/Semiconductor industry

  • Minimum 15 years in Project Execution
