The Industrial Mechanic Lead, reporting to the Technical Manager, will be responsible for leading the maintenance staff, as well as being hands on involved in performing repairs or maintenance as needed to ensure high quality, minimal downtime and safety standards are met. The Maintenance Foreperson will be expected to work weekends or evenings, as required, to assist in performing maintenance on equipment to avoid extended production downtime.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the day-to-day activities of the maintenance staff, ensuring all tasks are handled quickly, efficiently, and safely.

  • Responsible for short-term planning and keeping appropriate managers aware of decisions being made.

  • Assist in the orientation, training, and mentoring of staff and attend meetings as required.

  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for the maintenance department.

  • Assist in management of spare parts inventory, 6S, and assessment to meet business goals.

  • Keep current with ongoing changes and new technology and adapt accordingly.

  • Support department managers, project managers and consultants as required.

  • As needed to ensure quality workmanship and effectiveness; perform checks on mechanics work, daily logbook entries, and mechanics daily equipment walk around checks.

  • Schedule new weekly PM work orders and assign them to mechanics.

  • As needed review, update, add or edit PM work orders in software to improve effectiveness.

  • Set priorities for preventative maintenance work orders, by coordinating with production schedules and other factors (i.e., contractors’ availability, vacations, etc.)

  • When On-Call support is required, to cover non-regular working hours to be available and able to report for work within one hour of the call-in notice. It is their responsibility to report fit to work and not be impaired in any manner.

  • Is responsible for keeping current with daily repairs using logbooks and the feedback of departmental shift supervisors and/or with equipment operators.

  • Assess equipment operations regularly to detect operational issues, faults, or failures and to take appropriate actions for correction.

  • Is responsible for providing requested reports to the Technical Manager in a timely manner and/or updating tasks in the CMM systems/programs used in the plant (presently KeepTrack)

  • Is responsible for ensuring machines and related equipment aremaintained and safe for employee use. Makes modifications to equipment and/or machinery to meet specified tolerances for its proper safe operation.

  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. (Incorporating 6S principals to improve department organization).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED required; Certificate of qualification as an Industrial Electrician or Industrial Millwright is preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years working experience in a manufacturing environment as a maintenance person.

  • Proven ability in recognizing and correcting equipment problems in Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Mechanics, HVAC, Valves, Pumps, Compressors, etc.

  • Good working knowledge of machine electrical controls, including PLC’s, HMI’s, motor drives, sensors, etc.

  • Knowledge of forming & welding tooling and repair would be preferred

  • Read and comprehend written specifications, procedures, blueprints, drawings, electrical schematics, and diagrams to repair equipment or diagnose problems.
