Gateway Community Action Partnership Wellness Mental Health Advocate in Bridgeton, New Jersey

JOB DESCRIPTION: Mental Health Advocates are responsible for engaging and monitoring youth during afterschool and camp activities and provide case management to youth and families. Mentors are expected to be role models to youth and families during programming and while in the community.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES: * Assist Program Coordinator with planning, scheduling and implementing program activities * Establish positive and trusting relationships with youth and families * Continually assess youth and family needs and consult with clinicians to provide adequate treatment and supportive services as necessary * Educate and involve family members or other loved ones in programming when necessary * Maintain clean and neat program space * Participate in weekly supervision and staff meetings * Assist with outreach efforts * Attentive and responsive to participants needs and wants in a helpful, supportive, timely manner * Works collaboratively with program staff and community resources to provide viable services * Attend program meetings and trainings * Play an active role in meetings and trainings designed to enhance program operations * Provides culturally competent service delivery * Effectively engages participants to continually access needs * Provides appropriate intervention strategies, as needed, and adjusts services accordingly * Attend community meeting

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: * Minimum of an Associate degree in human services or other related field * Minimum of one-year experience working in the human services or counseling field * Computer literate and proficient in using applicable software

OTHER SKILLS: * Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to actively listen * Solid relationship-building capabilities * Good verbal and written communication skills * A positive and compassionate attitude * Keen attention to detail * Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize needs * Willingness to stay updated on new certifications and regulations within the field * Ability to work independently or as part of a team * Able to maintain a flexible schedule
