Schedule: Full time; 12-hour shift (Day and Night)

At the Bridgeport Correctional Center in Bridgeport, Texas , our foundation is based upon the philosophies of caring about others, giving back, and making a social impact. We provide a safe and secure working environment for our staff while helping an at-risk population receive the treatment necessary for success on their road back to a healthy, productive life.

Essential Duties:

  1. Search for contraband and provide security.

  2. Count, feed, and supervise inmates in housing, work, and other areas, which include climbing stairs.

  3. Provide custody and security of inmates including observation of inmates, which includes long periods of sitting and standing.

  4. Perform security functions including pat and strip searches, by squatting and bending to perform such functions.

  5. Transfer and transport inmates by walking or riding in vehicles. Restrain and secure assaultive inmates as needed.

  6. Respond to emergencies including climbing stairs, steps and ladders while searching for escaped inmates, hearing for, and calling for help, giving first aid at the emergency site, carrying an injured or unconscious inmate or employee various distances to safely up or down stairs, steps and ladders; and use force and deadly force to include the use of chemical agents and firearms to control inmates.

  7. Read, review, and properly apply information found in inmate records, which is related to the inmates health and safety and to the security of the facility. Provide appropriate information to other personnel while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

  8. Prepare, and maintain records, forms, and reports.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED).

  • Successful completion of an accredited TDCJ-approved Correctional Officer Training program or TDCJ Correctional Officer Pre-Service Training Academy.

  • A valid drivers license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

  • Must successfully complete annual, TDCJ approved background checks and in-service training requirements which include physical agility testing.

  • Continued employment is contingent upon passing exams and skills tests.
