Health First Associate Accounting Analyst - Accounting in Brevard County, Florida

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accounting Analyst is expected to be fully engaged in supporting Health First’s Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience and Stewardship goals and objectives. Under the general supervision of the Accounting Supervisor/Corporate Accounting Manager, the Accounting Analyst provides superior quality, competitive value and outstanding service. The Accounting Analyst’s responsibilities include work that is varied and somewhat difficult in character, with limited responsibility for recommendations and decisions. Additionally the Accounting Analyst will support the Sr. and Lead Accountant’s responsibilities to ensure excellent internal controls, timely and error free reporting and serve the needs of our internal and external customers.

*Quality/No Harm: *

  • *Provide financial close support including: * o Analyze and prepare preliminary standard and adjusting journal entries for assigned key transactions/business units. o Identify and research relevant balance sheet variances.
    o Identify general ledger anomalies and elevate them to relevant leadership.
    o Prepare balance sheet write-ups and analysis for assigned business units.
    o Mentor and coach Associate Accounting Analyst on relevant close responsibilities.
  • Support Finance goals, reporting and control requirements which may include: o Assist with preparation of sales and use tax returns for assigned business units. o Prepare bank recons for entities with medium to high difficulty level. o Prepare account reconciliations, as assigned. o Review account reconciliations, as assigned.
    o Support various financial audits. o Mentor and coach Associate Accounting Analyst on applicable reporting and control responsibilities.
  • Provide support, assistance and leadership to assigned significant transaction cycles which may include: o Treasury Services o Fixed Assets o Lease Accounting o Intercompany Accounting o Debt Compliance o Tax Compliance o Statutory/Regulatory o Internal/Line of Business Reporting o External Reporting o Mentor and coach Associate Accounting Analyst on areas of expertise.
  • Lead and support ad hoc projects as assigned which may include: o Surveys o Information requests (business interruption, rating agency data, etc.) o Department leader project requests. o Process improvement task force requests. o Other ad hoc requests.

*QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: *

  • B.S. degree in accounting, finance, or related field, from an accredited college or university.
  • Prior experience and knowledge in the use of software packages such as PeopleSoft Financials, Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Windows.
  • Two years healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience in automated accounting systems.
  • Knowledge in general ledger, bank reconciliation, account analysis, and schedule preparation.
  • Basic accounting and fiscal management concepts.
  • Enthusiasm and high level of job interest.
  • Possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Possess computer abilities as well as oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to relate well with all customers and peers.
  • Knows basic fundamental concepts necessary to analyze accuracy of asset and liability balances of all entities.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize to maximize quality, value, and service.
  • Ability to manage time effectively to maximize productivity and meet deadlines.
  • Remain current on all financial regulations and standards.

*PHYSICAL DEMANDS: *

  • Able to sit and view computer screen for up to three hours at a time.
  • Ability to occasionally stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
