Basic Job Functions:

The environmental engineer will be responsible for leading safety and compliance obligations for both the department and division. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintain compliance with all environmental reporting requirements; implement and manage environmental programs, including ISO 14001 and mill-wide environmental training; actively engage with the production team to assist understanding and continuous improvement of environmental compliance; coordinate air, water, waste and radiation permits, licenses, rules, regulations and programs; and participate in community outreach efforts. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years' experience in environmental compliance, permitting and reporting in a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations (air, water, hazardous waste)

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, chemical engineering or related degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited university in engineering, preferable environmental, civil or chemical, environmental science, or related degree.

  • Experience in environmental compliance in a manufacturing or other industrial environment.

  • Experience with implementation and maintenance of an ISO14001 or equivalent EMS.
