Palm Shores Behavioral Health Center provides quality mental health care and education services for adolescents, ages 11–17 who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, educational, family and social challenges. The dedicated professionals at Palm Shores Behavioral Health Center provide quality mental health treatment for children. The program establishes healthy behaviors and prepares children to transition back home.

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) performs direct patient care duties in a residential behavioral health setting. The Mental Health Technician is responsible for supervising the patient in treatment, recreation, educational settings, and other activities of daily living to assess changes in their social behaviors and clinical status. MHT’s have the primary responsibility for ensuring the patient’s safety in the facility. MHT's are responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per facility policy and successfully avoid seclusion and restraint whenever possible.

Duties include but not limited:

  • Actively supervise patients in all daily activities while documenting patients’ behaviors, conditions & progress in a manner prescribed by policy and clinical standards. (q15/q5 forms).

  • Take and record vital signs, both manually and with equipment.

  • Follow the therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team for each patient and maintain awareness of patient's individualized plan of care including goals and intervention

  • Supervises and assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL) (hygiene, meals, laundry) as needed.

  • Regular participation in verbal de-escalation and/or therapeutic crisis intervention with physically aggressive patients that may involve personal risk

  • Check patient for contraband and manage patient belongings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.

$17.75 starting hourly wage with bachelor degree in field. Hourly rate increases with verifiable experience.

  • Schedule: 7 am - 3:30 pm; 40 hours a week with rotating weekends off.

  • Shift Differential offered 3pm - 7 am. No shift differential from 7am-3pm.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in psychology, sociology, soocial work, human services or like field

Experience: Preferred six month's experience in residential psychiatry or other childcare facility/agency experience in comparable position

Background: Must be able to pass a Level 2 Background Screening to work in Healthcare (AHCA) and Pre-employment Drug Test.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic distance with clients; maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and following discharge.

  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow: policies, procedures, and written treatment plans.

  • May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.

  • Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of Handle with Care prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 7 days of employment.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
