Job Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating one or more types of heavy construction equipment, such as front-end loader, roller, bulldozer, or excavator in order to move, excavate, and grade earth, erect structures, or pour concrete or other hard surface pavements.

Education:

  • High School or Equivalent (preferred)

Experience:

  • Experience with operating a front-end loader, excavator, and compost/topsoil trommel

  • Experience operating with and around a variety of shoring and trench safety equipment.

  • Experience with minor daily equipment maintenance (i.e., fluids, grease, and lubricants).

  • Construction Experience

  • Heavy equipment operation

  • Safely operate a variety of equipment including excavators, backhoes, wheel loaders, bulldozers, graders, and rollers.

  • Ability to operate on a wide range of heavy civil projects including commercial site preparation, mainline utility construction, road building, land clearing, and earth moving.

  • Ability to dig around existing underground utilities, cut and fill to grade, load trucks, excavate, and backfill trenches to desired compaction, and lay utilities including pipe, structures, and vaults safely and efficiently.

  • Ability to perform a thorough daily equipment inspection.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain equipment related document control

  • Operate, drive, and control heavy equipment

  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles

  • Keep performance records of machine functionality regularly

  • Performs inspections at the beginning and end of the shift

  • Responsible for the daily maintenance of machines

  • Operating front end loader and/or excavator safely and proficiently.

  • Visually screen construction and demolition debris for unacceptable materials.

  • Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, and materials, using trucks, excavators, bull dozers, graders, or related equipment

  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with truck drivers on where to offload incoming material.

  • Ensure all Ballard Health, Safety & Environmental policies are followed.

  • Assist co-workers with heavy items.

  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of the facility and general housekeeping.

  • Other job duties will be added as needed.

Physical Demands / Working Environment:

  • Physical requirements include lifting up to 65 lbs., extended standing, walking, sitting, bending, climbing, working inside and outside, and use of fall protection equipment

  • Able to perform job tasks in sometimes dusty, hot and/or cold working conditions

  • Able to sit for extended periods, climb up & down from cab heights
