Wood County Hospital Lab Support Tech (Phlebotomist) in Bowling Green, Ohio

Wood County Hospital is now accepting applications for a Lab Support Tech. The Lab Support Tech  Delivers excellent customer service, answers questions, acts as a resource for laboratory information, and strengthens the relationship between the customer and the hospital.  Collects and transports specimens as required for the testing ordered, then works collaboratively with the Laboratory staff to ensure patient samples are properly processed and that documentation is complete. 

Job Duties:

  • Greets patients and other customers in person or by telephone, delivering excellent customer service. Answers questions, acts as a resource for laboratory information, and strengthens the relationship between the customers and the laboratory. 

  • Proficiently collects specimens from outpatients, inpatients and emergency room patients. Performs collections competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible and within expected time frames.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection requirements and associated test requirements by properly collecting adequate samples required for testing. Instructs patients as needed for self-collected specimens.

  • Assesses specimen requirements for testing and troubleshoots any specimen requirement or order entry issues. Keeps appropriate records/documentation relating to specimen problems and other problems encountered, taking any necessary corrective action to ensure the validity and accuracy of testing. This may include notifying providers and/or patients of the need to have specimens recollected.

  • Processes, sorts, and prepares specimens for submission to lab departments and/or referral laboratories and monitors pending lists to assure all steps have been completed. 

  • Accurately uses the laboratory and hospital information systems to manage test orders and specimen or patient information (e.g., order entry, order retrieval, order review, log-in, order cancellation, add-ons, etc.).  

  • Transports and delivers laboratory specimens and other designated material or information to the proper destination.  Handles each type of specimen per guidelines and maintains all required laboratory documentation.   

  • Actively participates in Laboratory Quality Improvement activities such as Requisition Checks, QI Form completion, review of pending logs, etc. 

Shift Details:

Hours: 

  • 36 hours/week  - Nights

Shift:

  • Variable; 8 to 12 hour shifts 

  • Weekend and on-call rotation

Minimum Requirements:

Required Education/Experience:

  • Enrollment/completion of a medical certificate or degree program(phlebotomy, medical assistant, EMT, etc) or prior experience in a medical setting providing experience applicable to phlebotomy and/or lab(military medical training, first responder, etc)
