Job Summary

The Johnson Laboratory in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department is seeking parasitology research technician (s) with expertise in aquatic parasites for a full-time, temporary position at the University of Colorado in Boulder. The primary responsibilities of this individual will be to perform necropsies on a wide range of amphibian, fish, birds, and snail species to identify and quantify macroparasite infections. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Primarily responsibilities will include (i) isolation of macroparasites for molecular and morphological vouchers and (ii) use of microscopic imaging techniques to document infections in situ.

  • During the summer, the selected individual may also train and oversee a small team of technicians and students to help with parasite identification and quantification.

  • In addition, the individual will help coordinate laboratory management, including animal husbandry and care protocols, equipment and supply purchasing, and database management.

  • This position offers a unique leadership opportunity to work with a vibrant scientific team on the study of disease community ecology.

  • Optional opportunities will be available to participate in scientific publishing, grant-writing, and the design/analysis of laboratory experiments, depending on the applicants specific interests.

What We Require

  • A successful candidate for this position should have a background in aquatic parasitology with extensive experience involving animal necropsy, preferably with aquatic vertebrates.

  • Applicants are expected to have strong organizational skills, demonstrated experience in data management, and an ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary scientific team.
