This position is for an experienced power systems engineer who can provide added value to the Electrical Power and Distribution Subsystem (EPDS) team for spacecraft programs throughout the company.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.

What You ll Do:

  • Collaborate with the EPDS department as part of your core team:

  • Work together with colleagues on tackling complex and challenging tasks.

  • Support spacecraft power system development at each phase of the program lifecycle.

  • Own several different spacecraft power system roles as the need arises to include but not limited to:

  • Tasked as the lead Electrical Power Systems engineer working on unique and exciting spacecraft missions to include national defense and civil space.

  • Perform as the Responsible Engineer for EPDS components to include spacecraft battery and/or solar array(s)

  • Development of a new payload interface box.

  • Provide power system sizing & schedule for new business proposals and opportunities.

  • Oversee the procurement(s) of critical spacecraft components with subcontractors that are vital to program success

  • Contribute toward advancements in power system architectures for new missions.

  • Manage Independent Research and Development (IR&D) advancing new and innovative technological products and solutions.

  • Represent the power systems team to the space vehicle program at all levels, ensuring the power system can meet the mission needs:

  • Participate both broadly and deeply in power systems for our space missions.

  • Provide contributions that result in more pictures taken, more planets found, more storms tracked, more intelligence gathered.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working o n-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • 4 or more years of direct experience in spacecraft electrical power subsystem engineering or electrical power test or electrical power operations preferred.

  • Detailed knowledge relating to some, or all, of the following preferred:

  • Lithium-ion batteries.

  • Solar arrays.

  • Power control and distribution.

  • Power conversion, regulation, and/or direct energy transfer architectures.

  • Charge control methods and power fault protection.

  • Experience with power simulation tools (e.g., PSPICE, MATLAB, etc.).

  • Experience with defining, developing and delivering space qualified hardware.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $112420.000 - $191070.000

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
