Ethos Veterinary Health Critical Care Certified Veterinary Technician in Boulder, Colorado

Are you interested in working in a fun and fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital? Colorado Animal Specialty and Emergency (CASE) is a fast-growing, 24/7 37,000 sq. ft. hospital in Boulder, Colorado that is looking to add members to our team!

We are looking for Critical Care Technicians to work full or part-time with our Critical Care Service. Come work at a hospital where you can gain experience, have fun, and make a difference!

The Critical Care Service is currently composed of 2 specialists in Emergency and Critical Care, soon to be 3, who see referral cases requiring hospitalization, care for ill hospitalized patients, and consult for other services in the hospital.

Critical Care Technician Description:

Working with the Critical Care Team will require triage and stabilization of referred cases for hospitalization, interactions with owners of these pets, and care for the most unstable/critically ill patients in the hospital.

Major Duties:

  • Triage phone calls, appointments, or walk-ins, when necessary. Reviewing medical records as necessary to assist in those triages

  • Perform appropriate patient restraint for examinations and procedures

  • Understand many illnesses and the appropriate treatment

  • Acquire, prepare, and ship laboratory specimens along with running automated CBCs, preparation of blood films to perform manual differentials and platelet counts, running various chemistries, Coag tests, and collect, evaluate, and report urinalysis results.

  • General nursing care such as: accurately obtaining and assessing patient vitals (temperatures, pulses/heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, pain score, etc.), auscultation of the lungs, prepare and administer nutrition

  • Perform general venipuncture, peripheral/central/arterial catheter placement and maintenance

  • Perform emergency procedures including but not limited to establish and maintain airway, oxygen administration including but not limited to minimally-invasive (O2 cage, nasal-nasotracheal oxygen and high flow nasal oxygen) to invasive (ie mechanical ventilation, resuscitation with blood products, administration of pharmacological agents including CRI’s, under veterinary supervision

  • Induction, surgical skin preparation, monitor and recovery of surgical patients for minor surgical procedures (ie. Chest tube placement, peritoneal drain, etc.)

  • Admitting and discharging patients, client communication and education, answering phone calls and scheduling appointments

  • Cleaning, stocking, general organization, and maintenance of ICU/Isolation equipment and supplies

    Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Required: Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT) or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). One year of recent experience in veterinary practice with increasing responsibilities.

  • Preferred VTS in ECC

  • Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs, cats) and stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to perform veterinary medical procedures (i.e., administer CPR, draw blood, administer medications and fluids, and assess and triage patients.)

  • Ability to communicate well with other technicians and doctors regarding the needs of the patients

  • Ability to communicate well with other CASE staff members.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and with little or no supervision

  • Ability to multi-task and produce quality work while making effective decisions

    Veterinary Technician Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour depending on experience.

  • Full time – Monday-Thursday 7am-5pm

  • On-Call: Required once fully trained

    Once fully trained there are opportunities availability to join our Extracorporeal (ECT) team. This team is responsible for all Dialysis treatments on multiple platforms as well as hemoperfusion. This is a rare opportunity in our region to be involved in such advanced treatments. Extensive training is required.
