SMX is looking for a Sr. DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a critical member of our infrastructure and operations group, you will be responsible for designing, modernizing, implementing, and maintaining the secure and scalable cloud-based platforms that power our mission-critical services. With a focus on new technologies and DevOps best practices, this role offers an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on delivering services to our clients. This individual will bring a strong trouble-shooting background, generalist technical skill set, and an ability to deploy production-ready solutions. This is a remote position supporting a Boston, MA based team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Proficiency in AWS services, focusing on deployment, management, and optimization.

  • Design and implement scalable, highly available cloud-based architectures.

  • Manage and configure Windows IIS (Internet Information Services) for web servers.

  • Configure and maintain .NET frameworks, including .NET core, ASP.NET, and related frameworks.

  • Set up and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.

  • Deploy applications using Kubernetes and containerization technologies.

  • Utilize AWS Lambda for serverless computing and event-driven architectures.

  • Monitor applications and infrastructure using monitoring tools.

  • Provision and manage infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or additional years of experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.

  • 5+ years of experience as a Platform Engineer or DevOps Engineer.

  • Proven ability to interpret client requirements into engineering plans and discrete tasks.

  • Proven ability to develop and deploy Production-ready AWS solutions through Infrastructure as Code.

  • Experience developing DevOps solutions from scratch using tools such as Terraform, Cloud Formation, Ansible, Jenkins, and related products.

  • Ability to build code pipelines and support deployment activities.

  • Ability to write scripts in JavaScript, Bash, Python, or similar.

  • A good understanding of foundational cloud components (e.g., VPN, IAM, CloudWatch, EC2, Lambda, Glue)

  • Strong trouble shooting and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Familiar working in an Agile team.

  • Customer-focused attitude.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience as a Platform Engineer or DevOps Engineer.

  • Advanced certifications in AWS or relevant cloud platforms.

  • Experience with container orchestration tools like EKS or Kubernetes Services or other relevant cloud platforms.

  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation tasks

  • Knowledge of best practices in security, networking, and compliance within cloud environments.

  • Experience working with other CI/CD tools besides Azure DevOps, such as Jenkins or GitLab CI

  • Proficiency in setting up comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems using tools like Dynatrace or Datadog.

  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment and familiarity with Agile practices, such as Kanban or Scrum.
