The Senior Director of Operations for the Radiology Department at BIDMC is a pivotal member of the Radiology Senior Leadership team. The Senior Director is responsible for the operations of the Radiology Department located at BIDMC, Chestnut Hill Square, 1101 Beacon street, Lexington and Chelsea through direction and coordination of the technical, nursing and support areas of the department to provide efficient and effective patient care and quality imaging in accordance with established guidelines and BIDMC policies and procedures. This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer for the Radiology Department.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Directs the technical areas of the Radiology Department through training, development, planning, counseling, and establishment of departmental goals and procedures in accordance with BIDMC policies and TJC.

  • Oversees the Modality Directors and Managers across Radiology Departments to manage all HR, operations, workflow, finance, equipment, and patient care matters. Works closely with Radiology Technical Directors, Managers Supervisors, and staff to facilitate career progression, team building, and community across the Department.

  • Monitors departmental performance to ensure quality of work and conduct of technical staff.

  • Serves as a liaison with referring and collaborating Departments across the hospital and BILH network to ensure timely, safe, and accessible care for all patients referred to Radiology.

  • Facilitates, in conjunction with physician liaisons and modality Directors, quality and process improvement activities for the department.

  • Works with the Radiologists and other leadership, providing technical in the evaluation and development of new technical procedures or inventions.

  • Oversees Radiology equipment management, capital investments, and maintenance in collaboration with BILH Clinical Engineering, outside vendors, and Modality Directors

  • Working closely with Directors and Facilities to ensure timeliness and coordination of service and installations to minimize disruption of operations.

  • Participates and represents Radiology in the Medical Equipment Management Committee ensuring TJC compliance.

  • Partners with the Department Finance Director, CAO, and Modality Directors/Managers to oversee department operating budgets, including being responsible for volume, charge, and expense performance to budget for all areas of oversight.

  • Participates in the development of department-wide business, operational, and organizational models.

  • Must be readily available to discuss with professionalism and understanding problems that arise relative to patient care and technical procedures with patients, authorized family members, and hospital staff.

  • Supervisory responsibility (directly and indirectly) of >400 FTEs

  • Represents the medical center as a valued member of the Beth Israel Deaconess network.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology/Imaging Technology, Health administration or related field required.

  • 8-10 years related work experience required

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.
