BU Police Academy Training Program

Boston University Police Department (BUPD) is pleased to offer a unique opportunity for active BU employees to join as Police Officer Trainees. Selected individuals will undergo training at the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC), commonly known as the police academy.

As a Police Officer Trainee, you will be affiliated with the Boston University Police Patrolman’s Association (BUPPA). Upon successful completion of the up to 6 months, full-time MPTC training, you will be promoted to the role of Police Officer I.

Qualifications

· Active BU employees in good standing

· Eligible for a promotion or transfer within Boston University (https://www.bu.edu/policies/promotions-and-transfers/)

· Candidates must pass a POST commission background check, psychological exam, drug test, and pre-employment medical exam.

· Candidates must pass the entry level physical fitness standards as outlined in the MPTC Health and Wellness Preparation Guide: http://mptctraining.com/roclessons/P_H&WPrepGuide.pdf

· Candidates must also pass the Physical Ability Test (PAT) as outlined: https://www.mass.gov/guides/schedule-physical-ability-test-pat-for-fire-and-police-departments

· Candidates must attend and successfully complete an MPTC Full-Time Academy.

· Any candidate who does not successfully pass any of the pre-academy requirements or fails to successfully pass the MPTC Full-Time Academy will not be hired as a BUPD officer.

Required Skills

Mandatory Job Requirements

· At least 21 years old

· High School diploma or GED equivalent

· Candidate must pass entry level physical fitness standards as outlined in the MPTC Health and Wellness Preparation Guide: http://mptctraining.com/roclessons/P_H&WPrepGuide.pdf

· Candidate must successfully pass an MPTC approved Full-Time Police Academy

· Candidates will be required to pass all POST Commission background requirements, including psychological exam, drug test, and pre-employment medical exam

· Appointees must be eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer in accordance with M.G.L. ch.22 s. 63

· Ability to obtain Massachusetts Class A License to Carry prior to graduating from the Police Academy

· Active Driver’s License

· Candidate will be required to pass a comprehensive background check, psychological exam, drug test, and pre-employment medical exam

MPTC ROC Police Academy Schedules

· All police academies operate daily Monday through Friday. There are no dormitories.

Selection Process
