JOB DESCRIPTION;

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION :

This position services Pine Streets meals program and the inn-s social enterprise, iCater and its customers. The kitchen associate is responsible for the set-up of meals, assisting in production of meals, service of meals to Pine Street guests and the cleanup of the dining areas following meal service. In addition, keeping the kitchen, serving areas, dining room and dish-room clean, organized and well maintained at all times.

The kitchen associate also assists the cooks and Chefs with food preparation, delivery, service and special functions for Pine Street and iCater customers. Exceptional quality and service is imperative and expected at all times. This position requires an individual who is willing to support the growth of iCater, and expand their talents to meet such growth.

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

    REQUIRED:

  • Some prior experience in food service of at least one year in meal preparation, catering, kitchen equipment and tools operation, knife skills and/or customer service will be required.

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to lift at least fifty pounds of weight, bend, stoop, and access walk-ins (refrigerators and freezers) for extended periods of time

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    This individual spends most of his/her time in the food service operations working directly with staff in the main kitchen and assisting in the preparation of meals for service. Some time is spent during the service of meals in the guest dining rooms. Exposure to the guests is common so compassion and patience is very critical in this role.

    REQUIRED:

  • Ability to stand on his/her feet for extended periods of time while operating a dishwashing machine or assisting in food preparation

    PREFERRED:

  • Experience using Windows Office 2010 programs

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    KITCHEN ASSOCIATE FUNCTIONS:

  • This individual is responsible for the set-up and breakdown of the dining room serving line when working the breakfast shift. This may involve the following tasks:

    Brewing coffee Wiping down serving line and tables

    Ensuring condiments are available. Cleaning juice machine

    Setting up serving utensils, trays and cups. Sweeping and moping dining room floor

    Setting up food buffet line. Clean walls, doors, all carts & equipment

  • Serves meals to the guests adhering to the portions and presentation outlined by the supervisor; ensures all accompaniments are prepared for service.

  • Count and record the number of guests being served at each meal.

  • Cleans up and organizes serving line for next meal service.

  • Must return all leftover food and food items to the main kitchen.

  • Prepare sandwiches and bag lunches as directed.

  • Under the guidance of the Chef, this person prepares iCater sandwiches for brown bags (bulk meals customers), iCater lunch boxes and other sandwich deli platters.

  • Under the guidance of the Chef, this person prepares iCater allergen meals, vegetarian meals and other unitized meals.

  • Prepares catering trays with attention to details, garnish, eye-appeal and accuracies around portion sizes and quantities

  • Assist in the set up and delivery of food for functions (catered events) as well as pick up leftover items.

  • Operate dish machine following standards and practices.

  • Always maintain the dish-rooms in an organized, clean and sanitized manner.

  • Washes pots, pans, utensils, tools and equipment, using appropriate protective gear, and following the standards and procedures outlined by supervisor.

  • Record PH Level of rinse water solution (used for sanitizing all items that are hand washed).

  • Performs the following utility tasks, using appropriate protective gear, and following the standards and procedures outlined by supervisor:

    Sweep and mop kitchen floors. Discard trash

    Wash trash barrels. Wash floor mats

    Clean dining room tables and chairs.

    Clean and sanitize counters and work stations.

  • Will be expected to assist in cleaning the following pieces of equipment and may be assigned to these cleaning projects:

    Ovens Stoves and Grills

    Deep-frying machine Refrigerators

    Warmers Steam Tables (Serving Line)

    Walk-in refrigerators Insulated food storage/delivery units

    Speed racks Stainless steels tables, counters and drawers

    Sinks Kettles

    Coffee machines Carts

    Any other areas as directed.

  • Reports any mechanical problems or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor on duty.

  • Works closely with the storeroom personnel ensuring that items delivered for meal preparation are appropriately stored.

  • Kitchen associates also work regularly with volunteers and donors of the inn. One must be always professional and should greet and assist these individuals when and where necessary.

  • Must help create and foster a sense of teamwork amongst all FS employees. Must also contribute to a safe, friendly and cooperative work environment. Adheres to the time and attendance policies and practices of the department

  • Report to supervisor at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure that daily assignments are issued and completed.

  • At times, this individual will be expected to lend support to the production staff in the preparation of meals.

  • Adheres to all Food Service and Pine Street Inn policies and procedures.

  • Other related duties as required.
